Make Do March: Picture Revamp and a Link Up!

At the auction that I mentioned two days ago, I bought this really cool print...but it need a frame. Boo...
Then I remembered this frame that I had in my closet, that I had bought at a garage sale for $4. It had a wooded mat that framed out 4 pictures.

The picture that I bought at the auction fit in the frame without the mat, it had a white boarder around it...but it also showed the edges--about an eighth of an inch, and looked bad. Wah waah wah:(

So I checked to see if the picture would work in the frame if I cut the "t" out of the mat...and it fit!
Armed with an exact knife I was off...
and I cut out the "t"! But the mat was made out of particle board and showed the imperfections and I didn't like the look of it...it was messy.

What did I do? I took some sandpaper to it. I distressed it a bit!

I put the mat and picture into the frame...and it turned out great! The distressing actually goes along with the look of the print.
What do you think?

Now it's your turn! Link up your own creations, crafts, recipes, sewing projects...that you finally finished! Or that you made with stuff you already had!

Make do March Day 3 Picture this...

Make do March fits in perfectly with my New Year resolution to declutter my house.  Last summer I purchased a stack of frames from Ikea ( I love IKEA!!!!) and they have sitting in my craft room gathering dust.   I finally decided to put them to use and started by putting up paper frames to see if I liked the arrangement.
Three days later I began the measuring process...can I tell you how much I hate measuring!!! (And it is impossible with a rug rat running around your ankles :)!)  So it took me 3 days until I began hanging them up and I really like how it turned out.
I only had one measuring miscalculation that was easy to fix and as you can see I'm missing 2 small frames. I didn't have an arrangement in mind when I bought the frames. Since we don't have an IKEA I found 2 frames that will work with the others and I am currently spray painting them. But I'm thinking if I move the 2 smaller frames closer together I might not need the other 2.
What do you think? Now all I need is to print off some pictures and it will be complete. Hopefully that doesn't take me another yr as well!! :)
What are you working on?

Crafty Bonanza Day 31....we made it!

GUESS WHAT???? WE MADE IT!!!! Sorry...slightly excited that we actually were able to do a post a day!! Now, I don't know if this will continue to happen daily, but I think we are in more of a mindset to post more regularly:)
I promised to show the finished framed project from yesterday, so here it is:
There is more room to add more frames which I like! Also, the blank spot on the patches is for a specific patch I went all around town for yesterday, but couldn't find. I also...the blond in me really...got the wrong map...so this is Andy's old one being a place holder until the stores open again and I can go get the right map. I'm going to put it on a white foam board and then he can put pins in the peaks he's already done.

The skis are his old ones...he got TWO new pairs this year! They aren't actually good skis anymore...the binding are no longer safe so I put them on the wall! He really liked the final product...which is all I wanted:)

We hope you enjoyed following the Crafty Bonanza!
Happy New Year!

Crafty Bonanza day 30...a framed surprise!

Since we moved in last May, our basement has been pretty empty. However, since the arrival of snow and Andy's new skis...it's become the ski room overnight:) I thought it would be fun to put some decorations down there...with skiing, and hiking in mind...so I rounded up some frames(3 I had, 2 I needed to buy for a whopping $5) and some fund stuff to put in them.
I made this sign out of black canvas and white fabric from the stash using...you guessed it...fusible webbing!!!

Small map of Anchorage from a free brochure

This is something Andy cut out of a magazine...years ago, but loves dearly so I thought it deserved a frame!

Andy's patch collection...they all were iron ons except the small one, but I just added fusible webbing and voila...I'm going to look for a Chugach State patch for the empty spot. The black fabric is from the stash

This is the whole collection...the picture is of the Alyeska ski patrol this year...he left it in the garage, but I thought it needed a frame:)
Rounding up the price of my project:
1. Ski Patrol Sign: $0
2. Map of Anchorage: $0
3. Ski More sign: $0
4. Patches Picture: $2.00
5. Patrol Picture: $ 3.00
Total: $5.00
Not to shabby, right? It's pretty easy to find things in your house that you can use to make decorations! Andy doesn't know I'm doing this so I'm going to hang all of these up in the basement with a large map of the surrounding mountains, as well as his old skis and surprise him when he gets home...from....skiing of course!
I'll try to post a picture of it when it's all done...should be done later today or tomorrow!

Happy Trails!
