Challenge #4 winter wonderland

This weeks challenge was to make something for winter. We love winter around these parts but have seriously been lacking the snow. Even Lucy thinks so.
(cute puppy that has nothing to do with this post except that she loves winter)

For this weeks challenge, I got my creative juices running and I made some easy peasy fingerless gloves. I often get cold hands but still need to be able to use my phone...so these are great. Plus I think they're cute.
Now they took a long time to make. I was slaving over them. Ha! Yeah right. It took 5 minutes.
Now it may take you a bi longer if you don't have a plethora of felted sweaters like I do, but only the length of time it will take to wash and dry the sweater.
So what I did he was cut the sleeves off at equal lengths and then cut wholes for the thumb. I then tucked the top in and sewed them down by hand.

Easy right? I thought so and was pleased with the results. What did you make?

Next Weeks Challenge
Project Finish: Look at the pile of stuff you've attempted to make and then gave up...or is that just me who starts a ton of projects, but hates finishing them? You've bought the materials and I'm guessing the project is over half done. So the challenge this week is to actually finish it. You can thank me later.
You can check out all of the challenges here.

Puff...puff...puffin!

At the craft show in Seward, we were approached to see if we would donate to a charity auction for the SeaLife Center in Seward AK.  Because we had another show, we said we would think about it. In the back of my mind, I knew we would. I asked the organizer what they were looking for, and she said anything that remotely relates to the ocean. Could be swirls, could be something in sea colors, it was up to us.

Fast forward and the organizer emailed me to see if we were still interested. I had been thinking about what to make or donate from our inventory. Since our birds were such a hit this year, I thought it would be fun to make a bird that was more Alaska themed. And you can't get much more Alaska themed, sea life themed than a puffin.

So Tuesday night I drafted out a puffin to make. Can I just say, puffins have weird beaks? Cause they do. Took me a while to get it right.

I looked in the sweater stash and found some white and black and some orange and yellow, because that in my mind is what the color of a puffins beak is. Wrong. Puffins actually have a weird reddish orange beak. But being as I didn't want to go back into the abyss that is my craft room, I stuck with the yellow and orange. Call it artistic freedom...cause that's what I'm choosing to say it was:)

I put the bird together and I think that it looks great! Its a cute little puffin! I hope that it goes for a lot of money and raises some good funds for the SeaLife Center!

Newest project: Wool Skirts

As promised we have done some new projects...hopefully you saw the hats!
The other new product we're working on is wool skirts for little girls. These skirts fit a three year old... Aria. They have a 21 in. waist and go to her knees.
We can make smaller ones and possibly adult ones, but we wanted to know what the general consensus was.
Without further ado:
Rosy Ruffle

Twirly Christmas Skirt

Asymmetrical Flowers

Please let us know what you think! We want to know if they would be worth selling at the craft fairs this year or not.

What I've been working on Monday

Happy April!!!  Spring is on it's way here in Anchorage and I couldn't be happier. I saw grass today for the first time since October and can't wait to see the first brave daffodils!

Here in Anchorage there are coffee huts galore and every time I get a coffee with a paper sleeve I always think to myself that I should just make one  but that has never happened. But after seeing the coffee sleeve my cousin made on her blog Maddi's World I was spurred on to making my own. Mine is definitely not as cute or as detailed as hers but I think it turned out alright.  It's very no frills.  I took a paper coffee sleeve, opened it and used it as a template to cut out a piece of a green felted sweater and sewed the ends together. I briefly attempted to cut out Java like my cousin Tania but didn't like my results so I decided to make a coffee cup to put on my coffee sleeve.  So far everyone who has seen it can tell what it is, always a good thing.  Next time I would use a lighter color for the cup to contrast the darker color of the sleeve. I can't wait to use it the next time I get coffee!

I've been trying to come up with ways to use the scraps from our wool sweaters and came up with this. It was super easy...I cut out 2 hearts/heart, one smaller than the other and stitched them together using embroidery thread. Attached them to each other and them sewed them onto a headband. Voila, super cute headband!
