Make Do March Day 20: Giveaway!

Howdy Howdy Howdy--

SO, I had this lovely post planned...in my head of course...I have this really cute quilt that I started in high school that I finished. Well, I should say semi-finished. The binding is pinned on. But I may have fallen asleep early last night...and it's sitting on my couch pinned. 

wah wah wah...

Whats a girl to do? She has no post to put up, no pictures...and she made a promise to post every day. Lets see...she could:

~ Call her sister....but said sister would be irritated cause I said I would have something done

~ Call Mom....but that's been done

~ Not post....obviously not an option

~ ummm.....

~ host a giveaway!

And the latter is just what I'm going to do....it's giveaway time!

Now, is this giveaway purely because I don't have a post...nope. We reached over 100 posts last week, so I figure that's a good enough reason!

What am I giving away? OH...well that's the fun part. I'm going to make it a surprise giveaway....so whoever wins will get a package containing goodies, which are yet to be determined. Said package could,  contain the following:

Make do March Day 19 Curtain fix and a Link UP!

Living in Alaska winters can be trying what with all the snow and the short days but summer makes up for that with hours of wonderful sunlight! However all that light does pose a problem when trying to sleep so room darkening shades are a must. You can buy them ready made or buy darkening fabric and add it to your existing curtains which is what I did for the curtains my mom made for Aria's room, almost 2 yrs ago.  And this is what I did with the fabric for a 1.5yr...pathetic I know.  My excuse was that the only time I had to do it was when Aria was napping and then I needed the curtains up. While that's true it's not that sewing isn't possible with Aria awake, it just takes longer as Aria loves to "help", mostly by sitting on the fabric ;)!

After getting up with Aria at the crack of dawn this morning I decided it was time to remedy my curtain embarrassment.  More embarrassing was how little time it took to fix them, sigh...I can't believe how lazy I can be!! Well that's not true, I can but here's hoping I can continue finishing off my projects once Make do March is done!   

So much better!!

Make Do March day 18: dishcloths...you can never have too many

right?

In my humble opinion, you can never have too many dishcloths...however they are way too expensive! Who wants to spend $2.50 or more on a cloth you're going to get dirty? Never made sense to me.

Last summer I was at a garage sale where they were selling yarn and lots of it. They had these skeins of cotton yarn for .50 a piece. Around here you're not going to find that yarn on sale at Joann's or Micheal's without spending at least $2.00. So I got a bunch...it may have been overkill, but such is life:)

Well I've been making dishcloths out of them! I've found that the tighter the crochet stitch the better. Easier for scrubbing! I can get two dishcloths out of one skein of yarn...which equals only $.25 per dishcloth...much more affordable.

They aren't anything special, but they get the job done! I've been meaning to make more, but didn't get to it until recently!

They are also great wedding shower gifts! Combine some of these with a bottle of dish soap--because really it's usually something the bride and groom will have to buy later!

Make Do March Day 17 COOKIES!!!

Who doesn't love a good cookie?? If I had my pick between cake, ice cream, chocolate, pie or cookies it would have to be cookies.  I love a good chocolate chip cookie and they have been the downfall of many of my diets! My latest cookie recipe find (courtesy of my friend Beth) is definitely a diet buster and combines all sorts of deliciousness! It just may become my favorite cookie!!

Since I was making do with what was in my pantry I used crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy and I made them smaller as I don't have a large ice cream scoop. They still turned out delicious and I have eaten far too many already!! 

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
3. On medium speed, cream together the butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and beat to combine. On low speed, gradually add the flour until just combined. Stir in the oats, and then the chocolate chips.
4. Use a large cookie scoop (3 tablespoons) and drop dough onto prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9-10 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden. Cool completely on the baking sheet and then store in an airtight container at room temperature. Makes 16 cookies.

Make Do March Day 16: all hung up

If you haven't guessd by now...I love me som Value Village...thrifting is such fun!

Anyways, I got this old-school coat rack at value village for a buck. It was  little worse for wear and so it needed some updating.

It got a spray paint lift. I had found this lovely plum color at Home Depot for a buck...cause it was a color they no longer had in stock. Win for me...

I used multiple thing coats to get the all around purpley goodness.

It's being hung up in the craft room for now, but it may become an addition to my bathroom that I'm re-finishing. we'll see! Either way, walking away with a fantastic purple coat rack for 2 bucks is A-OK with me.

Make Do March Day 15 Sleep on it

Aren't these little girls cute!  They've been hanging around with no purpose in my crafting room so I decided to put them to use. I decided to make Aria another sleepsack as I'm always running out of clean ones.  It will be a heavier sleepsack but as it's still winter here in Alaska it will be perfect!

It ended up being a joint project with Sarah as she did most of the sewing after I had cut it out.  She's on spring break and came over to hang out with Aria and I.  The zipper was recycled from a jacket  I had just throw away. Sarah did an awesome job on the zipper (it was her first one) and while she was sewing I got to work on finishing my quilt! 

It turned out super cute and fit Aria perfectly!

Make Do March Day 14: striped door

We have a very large basement...it's a big room, kinda like a rec room. However, it has become the dumping ground of the house....just because:) We've decided to make it into more of a guest room, with the possibility of renting it out, or just having lots of friends come and visit! (That's a hint to my friends to come visit)

The problem, however, is that it didn't have a door. And really we weren't sure we wanted to have a complete door....framing and all, so I came up with this loverly curtain door.

I had the stripes in my stash for a while. I had found it at Value Village a while back and there it sat. It's a nice heavy cotton/canvasy type fabric. The only problem was that it was not in any respects long enough. Wah wah wah....

But that in no way stops me. I had this other pink canvasy/cotton fabric in my stash that I used. Now, it doesn't actually match the stripes. There is no pink, but can you tell? I think not:)

I put it up on a curtain rod that I found brand new in the packaging for $5 bucks at Value Village...so we have a door for roughly $7, and I used stuff in my stash. That's a killer deal in my opinion:)

 It's already day 14...almost halfway through March...and my list is dwindling and I'm crossing stuff off my list. How about you?
