Crafty Bonanza Day 15...a day at the beach

We are headed to Hawaii come January for some much needed sun, a must during our cold Alaskan winters!!  I decided I wanted to make a hooded beach cover-up for my daughter using some baby towels that I had received at a baby shower but not used after discovering they were not very absorbent.  I found the perfect tutorial on Pinterest at craftershours.blogspot.com.

This is the baby towel I used, I had 2 of them so I cut off the existing hood on one of them, cut the bottoms off both the towels to use for the ruffled bottom and cut the body pieces from the body of the towels.

I guesstimated on the size using one of Aria's summer dresses as she was napping and it's the only time I have to sew!  I first sewed the bottom on, ruffling it first (didn't have to hem the bottom b/c the towel had a nice finished edge). Then sew the the dress together on the side and shoulder seams. Sew the hood to the neckline. To finish it apply bias to the arm holes and neckline.

As you can see I have yet to apply the bias as I didn't have any at home.  I plan on getting some bright colored bias to add a little pop. Because I guesstimated on the size of my pattern I had to enlarge the arm holes and neck once I tried it on Aria and I would have made it just a bit wider but overall I was pleased with how it all turned out. Hawaii here we come!
